I am pleased to announce that Mr. Michael G. Thorne has agreed to become our new Executive Director. Michael will succeed Dr. Christine Manlove who announced last year her intention to retire after thirty years as Executive Director of St. Elizabeth School. Michael's unique combination of experience, enthusiasm, and vision will empower our students, families, faculty, and staff to grow in the Franciscan Tradition.
Michael joins St. Elizabeth School after spending fifteen years working for Baltimore County Schools as a teacher, Assistant Principal and Principal.
In his last assignment, Michael served for ten years as the Principal of Catonsville Middle School. In this current position, he has increased the school's enrollment from 640 to 850 students and coordinated a regional program for students on the autism spectrum. In 2012, he was recognized
as the Maryland Middle School Principal of the Year by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).
Prior to joining the Baltimore Public County Schools, Michael spent eight years as an English teacher in the Montgomery County Public Schools.
In addition, he also worked as an Educational Research Specialist for
the Maryland State Department of Education.
Michael received his B.S. in English from Towson University and his M.A.
in Leadership in Teaching from Notre Dame University of Maryland. He
holds Maryland State certifications in administration, supervision, English, reading, and special education.
