Upper School Science - Chemistry/Biology

Garrison Forest School is seeking a full time Upper School Biology and Chemistry teacher commencing in August, 2017 for one year. We are searching for an enthusiastic, energetic educator who has experience teaching both Biology and Chemistry. We are a laptop school and experience using technology in the classroom is essential. Along with classroom teaching, serving as a student advisor and contributing to the co-curricular life of the school are integral parts of the teacher's role in our community, as are a lively sense of humor and a collaborative approach to planning and teaching. Individuals who truly wish to make a difference in girls' education while furthering their own professional growth are encouraged to apply. This position reports to the Head of the Upper School and meets with the Chair of the Science Department.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Teaching multiple grades in the Upper School (9th -12th)

  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of curriculum and subject matter with a course-load that could include some combination of Biology and Chemistry

  • Serve as an advisor to a group of students

  • Work alongside the Upper School Administrative team to build a meaningful learning experience for students

  • Work alongside grade level teams to build cross-curricular connections and interdisciplinary projects

  • Create a secure and stimulating environment in which students grow in both autonomy and the ability to work and interact together

  • Contribute to the life of the School as a coach or faculty advisor to co-curricular activities

  • Take responsibility for being a role model by maintaining an environment that fosters respect among students and colleagues

  • Possess strong communication skills, a patient and thorough understanding of adolescence, and the ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues




  • B.A. degree or equivalent – Master’s degree desirable

  • Prior experience working with children in a school
