Boys’ Lacrosse Program Head

We are seeking a dynamic, student-centered coach who has expertise leading and supporting a high-functioning team, inspiring student athletes, communicating effectively with families, and championing our four core values – honesty, kindness, respect, and responsibility.  The ideal candidate must have served as a successful interscholastic lacrosse coach, must have a broad knowledge of the intricacies of building a successful lacrosse program, and must have a keen awareness of the educational, athletic, and social-emotional needs of youth and adolescents.  The candidate must also have a strong commitment to collaboration and teamwork. 

The Boys’ Lacrosse Program Head will serve as the Varsity head boys’ lacrosse coach and will oversee all boys’ lacrosse operations at the school across grades 5-12, including hiring and training part-time coaches, managing budgets, establishing game and practice schedules, communicating with student athletes and families, etc. The Boys’ Lacrosse Program Head will be a full-time faculty member and will teach in our physical education program or another curricular area commensurate with area of expertise.  This position will report to the Director of Athletics and Physical Education. 

Facilities

The Kinkaid School has a 65-acre campus and impressive facilities that allow our student athletes to thrive.  These facilities include: three gymnasia, a turf field hockey field, a turf football/soccer/lacrosse field, a turf baseball field, a softball field, a seven-lane track, a fitness/weight room, and a wrestling room.  As we continue efforts to provide the best in facilities and spaces for our community, there are plans to expand our athletic facilities in the near future.  Those plans include adding eight tennis courts, an additional turf baseball field, and an additional turf multi-purpose practice field. 

Program

The athletics department at Kinkaid offers a wide range of fitness options as well as interscholastic sports.  Interscholastic sports officially begin in grade 7.  Prior to seventh grade, all students are involved in physical education classes.  At present we offer the following sports: Fall (cheerleading, cross country, field hockey, football, volleyball); Winter (basketball, soccer, swimming/diving, wrestling); Spring (baseball, golf, lacrosse, tennis, track and field, softball).  We value the importance of student leadership.  The Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) consists of 12 upper school students (6 boys and 6 girls) whose mission is to cultivate leadership, promote awareness of Kinkaid athletics, and serve the community.

The Kinkaid School has a history of academic excellence and athletic achievement.  We are members of the Southwest Preparatory Conference (high school) and Houston Junior Preparatory Conference (middle school). For the past two years, we have won the SPC Athletic Directors’ Cup, which is awarded to the school that has the most successful year based on composite playoff results in both boys’ and girls’ high school interscholastic sports. Each year, we field approximately 90 interscholastic teams across our middle and upper school programs and a number of our athletes pursue and participate in athletics beyond high school. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field (Master’s degree preferred)

  • Experience as a successful lacrosse coach at the high school level or above

  • Experience coaching other interscholastic sports (preferred)

  • Reputable experience teaching physical education in elementary or middle school or a commensurate middle or high school academic subject

  • Participant in collegiate level athletics (preferred)

  • Well-respected and admired by peers, colleagues, and parents

  • Commitment to having a pulse on student wellbeing

  • Proven leadership and mentorship of other adults

  • Proficient, organized, with great attention to detail

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills

  • Awareness of regional and national trends related to lacrosse and their implications on program, players, preparation, etc.

  • Eagerness to grow professionally and remain current within the field

  • Commitment to collaboration and high ethical professional standards

  • Exemplifies Kinkaid’s four core values (honesty, responsibility, respect, and kindness) in interactions with all members of the community
