Associate Director

Overview:

The Associate Director of Camp Mont Shenandoah is responsible for furthering the mission of CMS through the development, management, and strategic vision of all aspects of the business.   

The Associate Director achieves these goals as determined in advisement from the Director, and she will assist in the daily operations of the camp.  In addition, the Associate Director is a critical leader for the entire camp community and will serve to oversee the camp’s overall procedures and performance.  Main responsibilities include:

 

Leadership, Management & Education

Working with the Director, the Associate Director will lead, manage, and educate herself on the following:

  • Assist in the oversight of the daily operations of camp, including that of Healthcare, Facilities Management, and Food Service, including assisting with the hiring and training of Managers

  • Assist in the review of maintenance and capital improvement needs for short and long term facilities plans;

  • With the Director, oversee the daily operations of the administrative functions of the Office

  • Assist the Program and Riding Directors in evaluating the Program design and operations seeking feedback from campers, staff and parents on the quality of programming and the activities offered;

  • Remain current of the developmental needs of youth, youth culture and trends.  Will also stay current on Crisis Preparedness and will manage, evaluate and modify the Crisis Plan to mitigate and realistically respond to emergencies, both on camp property and off;

  • Will attend America Camp Association conferences and workshops as well as becoming a trained ACA site visitor.

  • Spearhead the 2018 ACA Accreditation visit and paperwork

 

 

Marketing & Human Resources

Working with the Director and Office Manager the Associate Director will:

  • Assist with all aspects of camp marketing including brochures, website and power point presentations;

  • Manage all social networks and assist with all aspects of photos and videos to be used for marketing purposes;

  • Assist with Open Houses, the annual Winter Reunion, and develop creative ways to reach and recruit prospective campers;

  • Analyze enrollment trends and demographics at CMS and the wider summer camp community;

  • Oversee the Camp Store with the Office Manager

          - Aid in ordering and pricing merchandise

          - Hire and train employees;

  • Assist all Management staff with hiring subordinate employees, ensuring that best practices are followed and required paperwork is on file;

  • Review and update the staff manual annually including updating all hiring materials, job descriptions, applications, and reference forms

  • Ensure compliance with all state and federal employment laws as well as conducting appropriate background checks on all staff.

 

Additional Responsibilities

  • Create and implement a plan for increased use of the camp’s facilities outside of the traditional summer months by leasing the camp’s facilities to outside groups, such as:  weddings, family reunions, corporate retreats

          - Develop non-traditional camp programs outside of the regular camp season

             such as a women’s wellness weekend, a father-daughter weekend

          - Vacation rentals of the Mouse House, Pill Box, and A Loft via online websites;

  • Maintain positive relationships with parents and alumnae as well as vendors and members of the Bath County community

 

 

Skills and Qualifications

A qualified candidate will have at least a bachelor’s degree and prior experience with camps or similar business.  She must demonstrate an interest in and enthusiasm for girl’s traditional summer camps.  Organization, creativity, as well as written and oral communication skills are a necessity.  She will posses the ability to connect and collaborate with a variety of people and constituencies within and outside the camp community.  She will embody the character traits found in the Mont Shenandoah five:  Love, Loyalty, Friendship, Sportsmanship, and Spiritual Awareness. 

 

 

Compensation:

Full-time, year round position with full benefits
