Founded in 1961 by the Franciscan Sisters of Baltimore, St. Elizabeth School serves students grades 1 to 12 and ages 6 through 21 who have many different abilities and disabilities, including autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disability, traumatic brain injury, emotional disability, and multiple disabilities which may include orthopedic, speech-language or other health impairments.

Overview of the Position

Reporting to the Board of Members, the Board of Trustees and in collaboration with the St. Elizabeth School Foundation Board, the primary responsibilities of the Executive Director include:

  • Supervision of the School Principal, Admissions Director, Development Director and other managers and supervisors from all of the functions associated with the School.

  • Ensuring that the School achieves its mission, is managed in accordance with Board-approved policies, and remains in compliance with relevant requirements established by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) and Local School Systems.

  • Serving as the School’s liaison with pertinent agencies and the community, establishing and maintaining relationships with outside educational, advocacy, business, religious, philanthropic, and professional organizations.  

  • Overseeing all aspects of the School’s business, financial, and regulatory operations; strategic planning; and the day-to-day operations of the school including facilities, personnel, programs, and curriculum.



Position Requirements

  • Completion of a Masters or Doctoral Degree in Special Education or a related field.


  • Attainment of an Advanced Professional Certificate in Special Education, ideally in grades K-12, and certification in Administration in Educational Leadership.


  • At least five years of experience in an administrative capacity with programs for children with intellectual disabilities, emotional disabilities, and/or multiple disabilities.


  • Successful completion of a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening.
